In what will be Gregg Berhalter's first real test since taking over the national team, the Stars and Stripes will aim to defend their Gold Cup title.

What is USA's CONCACAF Gold Cup record?

While the USA is not the most successful side in this competition -- that honor goes to Mexico -- no team has reached the Gold Cup final more times than the Stars and Stripes. USMNT has made it to the ultimate game on 10 different occasions but unfortunately has won only six of them compared to El Tri's seven.

Nonetheless, they are the reigning Gold Cup champion. The 2017 title went to the USA, beating Jamaica 2-1 in the final to move closer to their continental rival on the list of most successful nations.

Who are USA's key players for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup?

There is a reason why Pulisic is seen as the future of the USA. After failing to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, many cried for the national team to be built around the 20-year-old and Berhalter has not failed to do so, as the attacking midfielder has featured prominently under the new boss. The American picked up an injury towards the end of the season but will be fit and ready to go once the competition begins.

Jozy Altidore

Having not played for the national team since 2017, Altidore seems destined to make his return. The attacker was in good form before picking up a hamstring injury three weeks ago and has a good record in the Gold Cup, meaning he will likely be the Stars and Stripes' go-to guy for goals.

Michael Bradley

He might be 31 and the youthful Pulisic-Adams-McKennie trio may be preferred by many, but expect Michael Bradley to be a key figure for the USA. The manager has previously stated his desire to balance youth with experience and the Toronto FC captain will bring the latter to the Gold Cup.

Gregg Berhalter - He ended a 14-month spell for the USA without a permanent boss after being named the national team boss in December 2018. He was chosen as the man to rebuild the Stars and Stripes after their failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and so far, he has garnered impressive reviews for introducing younger players to the lineup. However, the Gold Cup will be his first real test.
