A few big names were omitted but the Reds and the Eredivisie side had the highest and second-highest number of representatives.

UEFA has released the 2018/2019 Champions League Squad of the season with winners Liverpool and semi-finalist Ajax having the most representation. The former beat Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Wanda Metropolitano to secure a record-sixth European title for an English club.

An early goal by Mohamed Salah and a late Divock Origi strike sealed the 2-0 victory as head coach Jurgen Klopp grabbed his first-ever trophy with the Reds. Despite their respective roles in Saturday's clash, the attacking pair failed to make the cut for the Squad of the Season.

Instead, fellow partner in attack, Sadio Mane, Georginio Wijnaldum, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson Becker were the players UEFA's Technical Observers selected from Liverpool to feature in the 20-man squad.

Meanwhile, finalists Tottenham Hotspur were represented by Lucas Moura, Moussa Sissoko and Jan Vertonghen while semi-finalists Ajax had the second-highest number of representatives with David Neres, Dusan Tadic, Frenkie De Jong, Hakim Ziyech and Matthijs De Ligt all making the cut.

Barcelona, who suffered a shock elimination in the semi-final, had Lionel Messi and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen on the list while Cristiano Ronaldo clinched a spot for Juventus. The final three slots were filled by Manchester City pair Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling as well as Olympique Lyon midfielder Ndombele Tanguy.
