Sarri linked with return to Serie A

Sarri linked with return to Serie A, Chelsea legend tipped to replace him

May 25, 2019 By Ali M.
According to reports, the former Napoli boss could be headed back to Serie A after an underwhelming debut season at Stamford Bridge.

According to the Sun, Maurizio Sarri could be offered an escape from Chelsea after a horrible debut season. The Italian, a highly-regarded manager during his reign at Napoli, has lost the support of many fans and even some players and could thus make a return to Italy.

The club reportedly interested in his services is Juventus. Due to the departure of Massimiliano Allegri, the Bianconeri is in need of a new manager and they are believed to be eyeing Sarri.

The Blues coach's tactics are best suited for Serie A and not the Premier League in the eyes of many. Furthermore, the players are reportedly not fans of his approach. The Old Lady, however, want the 60-year-old and will make a formal approach after Chelsea's Europa League final.

The Scudetto champion will have to pay a $6.4M compensation fee, an amount they're willing to cough up. Whether Maurizio will pack up his bags and leave for the Allianz Stadium remains unknown.

Should he leave, that could pave the way for Frank Lampard's arrival. Despite his short spell at Man City and that infamous goal he scored against the London giant, the Englishman remains a legend at Chelsea, even possibly their greatest ever.

The former Three Lions ace is currently the boss at Derby County and has impressed in his first season, guiding them to the Championship play-off. They will lock horns with Aston Villa for a spot in next season's Premier League but could have his head turned by the opportunity of returning to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard spent 13 years at Chelsea, winning 11 major trophies and becoming their all-time leading scorer with 211 goals. When asked if the club would block his path back to Chelsea, Derby owner Melvyn Morris admitted that they would not stop him. However, Lampard insisted that he is only focused on the upcoming trip to Wembley.
