Tuchel mocks Mbappé's rant ahead of Ligue 1 end

Tuchel mocks Kylian Mbappé's rant ahead of Ligue 1 finale

May 23, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The German boss shared a cryptic message full of praise and criticism aimed at his own player, following his speech in the Ligue 1 awards' ceremony.

If Thomas Tuchel wanted to ease the tension between himself and Kylian Mbappé, his words may have done exactly the opposite.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of PSG's last game of the season, the German boss referred to Kylian Mbappé's fiery speech during Ligue 1's gala, where he demanded a different treatment from his coach and the team's hierarchy. Tuchel's words were full of praise for the striker, but they were also full of sarcasm, and that might not be what Mbappé wants.

"I have mixed feelings about his message. He has big goals and a lot of confidence, that's why he chose to drop that message. He has his views on things and he is very smart, he knows what he's doing and when todo it. On the other hand, he's welcome to take responsibilities, like all of us. He does not have to take the microphone and say it, he has to take responsibility of being in time, eating right, playing in a professional way, things like that," Tuchel said.

Then, Tuchel revealed that Mbappé is well aware of what he needs to do if he wants to be one of the great footballers of our time.

"It's nothing personal, I'm not mad. It's not a problem of assuming responsibilities, I can't hold my head in shock for what he said. I speak with Kylian everyday, he knows what he wants, what I think of him and what aspects he needs to improve, the German boss added.

Mbappé's speech raised interest by many teams to try and lure the player away from PSG, and Tuchel did not shy away from such claims, which have also touched his other superstar: Neymar.

"As a coach, I'd like them to be around, but this is football, we are not naive. Lots of clubs want to sign these type of players and it's a crazy market. If you ask me, I'd be delighted to have them around, but if they end up leaving, we will figure it out," Tuchel concluded.

Tuchel's PSG is set to end the season against Reims on Friday evening. Mbappé will try to score four goals to match Lionel Messi's tally in the Golden Shoe race, one of the issues that forced Mbappé to deliver that controversial speech on Sunday evening. Only time will tell if this will be the last match for the starlet wearing PSG's uniform.
