Audio reveals Sala did not want to join Cardiff

Gut-wrenching audio reveals Emiliano Sala's real feelings about Cardiff transfer

May 22, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
According to the audio, the Argentine footballer had some doubts on how the deal would benefit his career.

Emiliano Sala's transfer has been surrounded by a hue of mystery since Day one, and the latest revelations show that not even the footballer was sure about joining Cardiff City.

A WhatsApp voice message between Sala and one of his friends revealed the player's true feelings about the ill-fated transfer. According to the Argentine, the transfer was planned by none other than Waldemar Kita, Nantes' president, who saw the opportunity to cash in with the player's transfer without even asking for his permission.

The audio message made public by TV show L'Equipe Enquete also shows how Sala tried to twist agent Meissa N'Diaye's arm into getting a better deal for him, but the Kita family had already made their decision.

"Last night, I sent a message to Meïssa (N'diaye, Sala's agent), he called me a few hours later. So we had discussions and he told me the last night Franck Kita (son of Nantes owner Waldemar) sent him a message to talk, so he called him. They spoke. And, they want to sell me," Sala said at the beginning of the message.

The player admitted that the deal was tempting in terms of his wage, but the idea of playing for the Bluebirds was not that appealing.

"So, there is the offer from Cardiff today. On their side, they have negotiated to get a lot of money. So they absolutely want me to go there. It is true that it is a good contract but from a football perspective it is not interesting for me. So, there you go, they are trying in every way to get me to go there," Sala told his friend.

Sala went back to Nantes after signing his contract, but he never made it back to Cardiff after the plane crashed into the sea.

The Argentine even discussed how he felt let down by Waldemar Kita's attitude regarding his transfer, and how he would try to avoid speaking to him after finding out the real reasons to make his transfer happen.

"It is true that I would like to find something interesting in terms of contractually and also from a football perspective, but sometimes you can't have both. On the other hand, I do not want to speak with Kita, because I do not want to get angry. He is someone who disgusts me when I am face to face with him," Sala added.

The player's body was found on February 6 after a privately-funded search located the Piper Malibu aircraft that was transporting him back to Cardiff on the bottom of the ocean. His funeral took place in the Argentine city of Progreso, with Cardiff City's boss Neil Warnock and Nantes' coach Vahid Halilhodzic in attendance.
