Liverpool receives injury boost ahead of UCL Final

Liverpool receives massive injury boost ahead of Champions League Final

May 21, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Reds have welcomed back one of its star players from injury.

Liverpool's chances of securing the Champions League title against Tottenham Hotspur has received a major boost with Roberto Firmino rejoining his teammates in training. The center forward is expected to be fully ready before June 1 when the Reds take on their Premier League rivals at the Wanda Metropolitano in Spain.

The 27-year-old forward tore a muscle ahead of Liverpool's Premier League encounter with Huddersfield on April 26th. Despite passing the fitness test to feature in the semi-final first leg against Barcelona, the ex-Hoffenheim striker suffered a relapse which ruled him out of the subsequent three game including the remontada against the Catalans at Anfield.

Reports from England have indicated that Firmino spent last week training alone with Liverpool's strength and rehabilitation assistant David Rydings while his team-mates were given a few days to cool off ahead of the Champions League final. Having joined his teammates in Marbella, the Brazilian successfully took part in Tuesday's training session.

While the player's return is a positive news, Liverpool has maintained that he will be closely monitored. A statement by the club on Tuesday read as follows:

"Firmino has been working with the club's medical staff on his rehabilitation from the issue and his reintroduction into full team training will be carefully managed under their supervision, with specialised programmes planned over the coming days."

Meanwhile, the Reds could potentially be without Naby Keita for the final despite the Guinean midfielder traveling to Spain with the team. The 24-year-old sustained a groin injury during the first-leg defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou.
