The English youngster proved to be a spark at the end of the Red Devils nightmarish season.

Manchester United fans have singled out Mason Greenwood for praise after the teenager impressed in the last league game of the season against Cardiff City. The young striker was handed a full debut at Old Trafford on Sunday but, despite falling to get on the scoresheet, showed glimpses of becoming a potential marksman for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in the near future.

Bar his display in the afternoon's encounter, he successfully landed himself in the Red Devils' history books. Aged 17 years and 223 days, Greenwood became the youngest-ever Premier League debutant for Manchester United. The record was previously held by former academy graduate Federico Macheda who featured in his first Premier League game for the Old Trafford outfit at the age of 17 years and 253 days.

Meanwhile, a strong display of the afternoon handed a relegated Cardiff City side a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford. Scorer of both goals, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing became only the second player from a newly promoted club to score a Premier League brace against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Former Manchester United star Louis Saha was the first to pull of the feat during his playing days at Fulham in August 2001.

In a relative development, skipper of the Red Devils Antonio Valencia came off the bench for his last game at the club, ending a 10-year spell. In what was a rather unsatisfactory performance to honor the Ecuador international, fans did not hold back with criticisms aimed at some of the full-back's fringe teammates.
