Transfer: Barcelona identifies Liverpool star as a potential summer signing

May 11, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
A deal may be hard to broker but the Catalans are apparently willing to give it a shot this summer.

Spanish heavyweights FC Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Liverpool fullback Andrew Robertson. The 25-year-old Scottish defender has been exceptional for Liverpool since joining the Premier League outfit in 2017 and is apparently on the radar of Ernesto Valverde's side who aims to bolster its squad this summer.

Robertson has registered 13 assists across all competitions this season and has been an integral element in Jurgen Klopp's side phenomenal Champions League campaign. As a result, Catalan publication Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has set its sight on recruiting the left-back as he is believed to be at 'the level of left-back that they want'.

However, Barca is aware of the difficult nature of the move possibly materializing considering the defender is contracted to Liverpool until 2024. The report from Spain suggests that the Camp Nou outfit could pay in the excess of 50 million pounds if it seeks to sign the Liverpool fullback.

Also, the Spanish league winners will be made to cough up an additional 100 million pounds if they seek to invalidate a clause which suggest that the club will desist from signing any Liverpool player until 2020 following the acquisition of Philippe Coutinho in 2018.
