With only the top two sides moving on to the knockout stage, Argentina and Scotland will have to battle it out with the giants that are England and Japan.

Argentina

After a two-year absence, Argentina will be making their return to the FIFA Women's World Cup at France 2019. However, their qualification was by no means extraordinary. In fact, had it not been for the CONCACAF–CONMEBOL play-off, which they won 5-1 over Panama, the South American nation would not have earned a spot in the highly-anticipated summer tournament.

One important thing to remember is the Albicelestes' atrocious record in this competition. They have made only two appearances in the FIFA Women's World Cup and crashed out in the group stage on both occasions, losing every single game.

England

England is one of the favorites for this tournament but will face stiff competition to win their group from another team (continue reading to find out who). Japan

Remember that team that will challenge England for supremacy in Group D? They are none other than Japan. The Asian giant reached the last two FIFA Women's World Cup finals, winning it in 2011 and losing to USWNT in the most recent edition, and will thus be a favorite once more.

Nadeshiko Japan enters this tournament as the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup champion, which will be a huge confidence boost. However, it should be noted that when they locked horns with England in the 2019 SheBelieves Cup, they suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss.

Scotland

After four failed attempts to qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup, Scotland will finally make their debut in France 2019. If Kim Little and Co. wish to make the knockout stage, they will have to assume the role of a giant killer.
