Despite missing out on the big prize, Sterling did come away from Sunday's ceremony with a prize of his own.

While questions still linger over Liverpool's chances of winning the title, Virgil Van Dijk's incredible season with the Reds has been recognized, winning the 2018-19 PFA Player of the Year award.

The Dutchman has been stellar this term for the Merseyside giant, none can deny that. However, the center-back had to fend off stiff competition from Raheem Sterling to win this title.

Van Dijk follows in the footsteps of Anfield team-mate Mohamed Salah, who won this prize last season, which means this accolade has gone to Liverpool players in back-to-back seasons. Van Dijk also ended a 14-year record, becoming the first defender to be named PFA Player of the Year since John Terry in 2005.

It wasn't all bad for Sterling in Sunday's award ceremony in London. The Man City ace, despite missing out on the big prize, was recognized for his impressive campaign, being named PFA Young Player of the Year for his achievements.

Leroy Sane was the recipient of this award last season, but this time around, the 24-year-old Englishman beat him to it thanks to his 17 goals and 10 assists in the English top-flight.

The odds say Sterling will add a Premier League medal once the season wraps up, but Klopp's men will not give up the fight until the final game. Only two rounds remain in the Premier League and Man City currently boasts a one-point lead over Liverpool. Who will clinch the title remains unknown, but one thing is for sure: we are in for an exciting climax.
