The wait is finally over!

On a day where the Gunners' male team saw its top-four hopes dashed as a result of the 3-0 defeat at Leicester, the female team sparked merry-making in North London. It's official, Arsenal Women are the 2018/2019 champions of the Women's Super League!

Ahead of the trip to Amex Stadium to face Brighton & Hove Albion, Joe Montemurro's ladies needed the maximum points to seal their fate as league winners. In front of 5,265 fans - a record attendance figure in the WSL - the Londoners pulled off an emphatic 4-0 win to lift the trophy with one more game to spare.

The league's top goalscorer Vivianne Miedema opened the scoring in the sixth-minute when her 25-yard effort crossed the goal line after it hit the underside of the bar. As a result, she took her tally for the season to 20 in 17 appearances.

In the 31st minute, Katie McCabe doubled the lead before Beth Mead grabbed Arsenal's third with a long-range effort in the 70th-minute. Six minutes later, Daniëlle van de Donk sealed the 4-0 thrashing with a low shot.

With 51 points from 19 games, Arsenal established a four-points lead ahead of Man City with one match to go, confirming their status as title winners for the first time since 2012. As a result, the Gunners became the first team in the history of the WSL to win three titles.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea trail closely with two league wins apiece while Man City has won one.
