Another twist in the race for a top-four spot in the English Premier League could be on the cards when Manchester United and Chelsea battle each other at Old Trafford on Sunday.

What is the position of Manchester United and Chelsea on the league table?

Manchester United ranks sixth on the Premier League table. Chelsea is currently fifth.

What is the form of Manchester United in contrast to Chelsea's?

At the moment, Manchester United is in its worst-ever form in its Premier League history having suffered their sixth consecutive defeat in all competition at home to Manchester City in midweek.

Very little is going per the scripts for the Old Trafford outfit whose top-four charge is virtually out of their hands. In the last 10 matches, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen his side slump to defeats to seven occasions while winning the remaining three.

On the other hand, Chelsea enters Sunday's clash hoping to get back on track in the top-four race after failing to capitalize on defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United on Easter's eve. The Blues were held at home to Sean Dyche's Burnley despite taking a 2-1 lead in the early minutes.

In the last 10 matches, they have won six, drawing two and losing the remaining two.

Team news: Who is injured or suspended for Manchester United vs Chelsea?

Ander Herrera is expected to return for Manchester United's when Chelsea comes to town on Sunday after missing his side's last six games through injury. Scott McTominay was unavailable for Wednesday's derby defeat and has not yet shaken off a knock. Also, Phil Jones remains a doubt after sustaining a knock in last weekend's defeat against Everton.

In the camp of Chelsea, Antonio Rudiger is expected to feature at Old Trafford after sitting out the draw against Burnley with an injury. Teenage star Callum Hudson-Odoi successfully completed surgery on the Achilles injury he picked up on Monday and will sit out the remainder of the season. N'Golo Kante remains a doubt after injuring his ribs in the meeting with Burnley.

No player is suspended for both clubs.

What are the managers saying ahead of Manchester United vs Chelsea?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United: "The total points is 70 in average for the last five seasons, we're now on 64, so that's where we're at, that is the reality that we are in now, where we've been in the last five seasons and that's not good enough.

"That's not down to the last six, seven or eight games, that's where we are at the moment and we have a great challenge ahead of us to get us up challenging again."

Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea: "We have two very important targets at the end of our season.

"The first is the top four and the second is to get to the final of the Europa League.

"For the first target, this match is more than important for us and for our opponents. So we will try to win, of course, but we need not lose. It's a very difficult match for both I think."

Top 4 permutations: The impact of Tottenham vs West Ham in the race for a Champions League spot

The situation

After Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United all hit snags in their fixtures earlier this week, Tottenham seems the like breakaway 'winners' in the race to secure a top-four spot. On Saturday, the White Lilies could go a step closer to fully consolidate their spot for Champions League football next season should they see off local rivals, West Ham.

With just three matches to go, Pochettino's men sit in third with 70 points, three points more than fourth-placed Chelsea, five more than Arsenal in fifth and six more than sixth-placed Manchester United. At the moment, Spurs need six points from the nine left to fully confirm their top-four finish although three could all but seal their fate.

Aside the upcoming test against West Ham at home, their remaining games include a trip to Bournemouth and a home meeting with an Everton side that is chasing Europa League qualification.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United's chances

While the odds seem to be in favor of Tottenham, any result but a win at Old Trafford could jeopardize Chelsea's chances of a top-four finish with Arsenal breathing down the neck of Sarri's side. The Blues travel to Old Trafford with 67 points while Arsenal will be hosted at the King Power Stadium with 66 points.

Should Manchester United win at Old Trafford, it will move level on points with the Blues who will most likely edge the Reds with a superior goal difference.

On the other hand, a win for Arsenal at Leicester will complicate the equation for both Manchester United and Chelsea should the scenario above play out. In that instance, Chelsea will be required to win at home to Watford and away to Leicester in their last two games while hoping that Arsenal drops points against Brighton at home and Burnley away.

Similarly, Manchester United will hope the two London clubs drop points while they aim for successive wins at Huddersfield and against Cardiff at home in the last game.
