With the tournament set to kick-off in less than a month, a number of the most talented youngsters in the world are gearing up to take center stage.

Kick-off for the FIFA U-20 World Cup is right around the corner. With the biennial championship set to begin on May 23, many of the game's brightest and most promising players are gearing up to make a name for themselves in Poland.

Many of the beautiful game's most iconic players made a name for themselves in this competition. The likes of Thierry Henry, Diego Maradona, Davor Suker, and Ronaldinho have all graced the FIFA U-20 World Cup, with Messi and Pogba being two of the most popular champions in recent years.

The last player to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup Golden Ball was Dominic Solanke after guiding England to the title. Come this May, a new list of youngsters will fight for that award. Here is our pick for the 2019 potential Player of the Tournament.

NOTE: Questions remain as to whether Moise Keane will participate, given that he is 19. However, with the tournament kicking off before club football comes to an end, we predict he will represent Italy at the 2019 European U-21 Championship in June. The same goes for England's Reiss Nelson and Phil Foden. Joao Felix may also not be released as his Benfica side is battling in a heated league race.

Some of the brightest starlets, but many will likely feature only in the European U-21 Championship this summer

Moise Kean, Calum Hudson-Odoi, Reiss Nelson, Joao Felix, Phil Foden

Leonardo Campana of Ecuador

Ecuador was one of the surprise packages of the 2019 South American U-19 Championship, the tournament in which CONMEBOL's four representatives earned their qualification from. Lead by Leonardo Campana in the attack, the Mini Tricolor finished ahead of the continent's bigger footballing nations Argentina and Uruguay twice, once in the group stage and once more in the final stage.

Ecuador won that title and in Poland, they will be eager to prove that it was no mere fluke. Campana has a similar case to prove, as he finished as top scorer with six goals back then. Another impressive tournament from the 18-year-old and his stocks will rise.

João Filipe of Portugal

While Francisco Trincão scored as many goals as fellow Portuguese starlet João in the 2018 UEFA European U-19 Championship, there is a reason why the latter was chosen over his countryman for the Team of the Tournament.

Also known as Jota, Filipe scored two of his five goals in that tournament in the final against Italy. Moise Kean almost robbed him of the opportunity of glory, but the Benfica youngster would go on to complete his brace in added time en route to a 4-3 win over their European rival.

José Juan Macías or Diego Lainez of Mexico

Mexico has never won this competition before, finishing as runner-up in 1977. However, if they wish to end their wait, a lot of that responsibility will fall on two men: José Juan Macías and Diego Lainez.

Although El Tri came up short in the 2018 U-20 CONCACAF Championship, the aforementioned duo did enough to impress. Macías finished as top scorer in that competition with a whopping 10 goals, two more than the tournament's Golden Ball winner. His midfield buddy Lainez was named in the Best XI. Should Mexico go all the way, expect these two men to be at the center of that success, and one to be named Player of the Tournament.

Gonzalo Marioni of Argentina

Argentina did not win the South American U-19 Championship, but things could have ended awfully for La Albiceleste. Fortunately, Marioni, one of the nation's star performers in that competition, helped them to a second-place finish. They are the most successful side in the FIFA U-20 World Cup history and are thus one of the favorites.
