Mbappe shows his unrivaled speed vs Monaco

Mbappe records one of the quickest sprints in historic win over Monaco

April 22, 2019 By Ali M.
The Frenchman bagged a hat-trick against his former team as Les Parisiens celebrated their successful Ligue 1 title defense.

Sunday was an amazing night for PSG, with star attacker Kylian Mbappe showing his worth once more. Not only did the Frenchman prove he is a lethal goal scorer, but he also reminded everyone of his deadly pace that strikes fear in the hearts of defenders.

Les Parisiens hosted Monaco over the weekend in what turned out to be their title celebrations. Closest rival Lille slipped up against Toulouse, meaning Tuchel's side successfully defended their league crown. Beating Leonardo Jardim's crew 3-0 was the cherry on top of the cake.

It was none other than Mbappe, the former Les Rouges et Blancs sensation, who put them to the sword, scoring an excellent hat-trick. The 20-year-old showed once more that he is unstoppable, and at one point, recorded one of the fastest sprints seen on a football pitch.

In the build-up to one of his goals, Kylian picked up the ball on the halfway line and found his team-mate before bursting past the opposition defense. This run was later analyzed by French television, revealing that he hit an average speed of 38km/h before finding the back of the net.

This average is even higher than Usain Bolt's when he recorded his 9.58-second 100m world record. However, it's not a straight-forward comparison as the iconic Jamaican runner sprinted for a longer distance -- 100m compared to the 30 Mbappe did on Sunday -- and had a top speed of 44.72km/h in that unforgettable Olympics night.

Nonetheless, the World Cup winner's feat was a remarkable one. To put this into perspective, the quickest sprint ever recorded in the Premier League was 35.48km/h by Leroy Sane last season.

Despite this, it was not his speed that landed him in the record books, but his finishing. With that three-goal haul, Mbappe reached the 30-goal mark in Ligue 1 this season, making him the youngest player in French top-flight history to achieve this. Watch his hat-trick in the video below.
