Solskjaer sets SIX unwanted records vs Everton

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets SIX unwanted records as Man Utd falls at Everton

April 21, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Norwegian manager's side were thrashed by four goals to nil in the Premier League encounter at the Goodison Park.

It may not be the start the Norwegian manager envisaged after his 'honeymoon' period as Manchester United's interim manager as Ole Gunnar Solkjaer landed himself in the history books for all the wrong reasons in defeat at Everton.

With Tottenham dropping points at Manchester City, the Red Devils had the opportunity to breathe hope into their top four bid but failed to do so. The Old Trafford outfit started off on the wrong foot as a stunning overhead kick goal by Richarlison handed Everton the lead in the 12 minutes.

A quick breakaway in the 28th minute resulted in Gylfi Sigurdsson scoring the hosts second from long-range. The rampage was continued in the second half as Lucas Digne ensured a three-goal advantage for Marco Silva's side with a volley from United's penalty area in the 56th minute.

Theo Walcott then benefitted from another counter-attack to seal the 4-0 victory eight minutes later. Everton subsequently recorded their biggest win in 35 years against Manchester United while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found himself on the wrong side of history.

First, the 46-year-old manager presided over Manchester United's fifth-ever Premier League defeat by four or more goals in the Premier League era. The team also recorded its 11th match in all competitions without a single clean sheet, their worst-ever run since 1998.

Also, the four goals at the Goodison Park meant that the Reds have now conceded 48 league goals - the most in a single league campaign since the 1978/1979 season. Having previously failed at Wolves and Arsenal, Solskjaer side has now been beaten away in the Premiership for the third successive time. The last time this happened was in the 1995/1996 season.

Finally, the Manchester club has been defeated in five successive away matches in all competition for the first time since the 1980/1981 season.
