How they got here: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Benfica

Benfica dropped down to the Europa League after finishing third in their quartet behind Bayern Munich and this season's surprise packages, Ajax. However, the Portuguese side have adjusted well to life in European club football's second-tier competition. The Eagles first saw off Turkish side Galatasaray thanks to a 2-1 away victory, which was enough to give them a spot in the round of 16 despite failing to score in a draw on home turf. Next, they recovered well after a 1-0 loss to Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb by beating their opponents 3-0 - two goals coming in extra time - to set up a quarter-finals clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, who many view as a serious dark horse so far in this season's Europa League.

Eintracht Frankfurt are no strangers to pulling off upsets. Last season, under the guidance of Niko Kovac, they beat Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal, thus getting a spot in this year's Europa League tournament, and Adi Hutter's men have been in dominant form since the group stages. They topped their quartet with a perfect six wins out of six, well ahead of sides like Lazio and Marseille, and easily brushed aside Eastern European outfit Shakhtar 6-3 on aggregate to book their spot in the round of 16.

Inter were a much tougher opponent, but in-form striker Luka Jovic's solitary goal at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza was enough to decide the tie and now the Serbian international will hope to cause some major problems for Benfica - who, ironically, is his parent club as he's on loan from them to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Now the hosts face an uphill battle to secure a spot in the semi-finals after a 4-2 loss in the first leg. It was an entertaining game for the neutrals and certainly Benfica fans will be quite confident and happy with that result, but for Eintracht Frankfurt fans, they will be well aware of the tough task they face in this match. The loss marked the first away loss for Adi Hutter's side since before the Christmas break

Current form: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Benfica

The 4-2 loss to Benfica did really knock the wind out of Eintracht Frankfurt's sails, as they went on to lose 3-1 to Augsburg last weekend. Prior to that, Frankfurt had won their last six Bundesliga games and were unbeaten so far in 2019 - which was their last 15 across all comps. Now they come into this game having lost two in a row, whilst conceding seven goals in that miserable run.

Benfica, for their part, followed up their 4-2 win over Frankfurt with another 4-2 victory, this time, against Vitoria Setubal. That means the Eagles have scored eight goals in just their past two games and thus will be raring to go ahead of their trip to Germany this Thursday.

One side leaking goals at an alarming rate, the other plundering them. It's set to be a very interesting showdown indeed in Frankfurt on Thursday evening.
