The Norwegian manager believes his formula could help upset the Blaugrana at Camp Nou.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer jumped to the defense if the starting line up he opted for in Tuesday's cruchy Champions League encounter with Barcelona.

The Norweigian manager whose side suffered a 1-0 first-leg defeat at Old Trafford last week opted for an attacking system in a bid to upset the odds and progress from the quarter final stage of the European competition. With Luke Shaw picking up a suspension in last week's encounter, Ashley Young was deployed in a makeshift left-back role while center-back Victor Lindelof started on the right.

Portuguese starlet Diogo Dalot who starred in the first leg's line up was demoted to the bench as so was lead striker Romelu Lukaku. The latter was replaced by Anthony Martial while the midfield trio featuring Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Fred was maintained.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of Tuesday's meeting, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "We want them to go out there and express themselves and go forward.

"We stand a better chance if it's open than if it's cagey. If this becomes an open game we can score many. We will go there, confident but humble to know it will be the hardest night of work.

"We have got to go for it we can't sit back and wait for them to make mistakes they don't make many mistakes we have to go at them.

"We've picked a team that's going to solve most of the problems they can give us, we can't afford to have five at the back because that was a bit cautious, it was to stop Messi of course but today we need more goals."

Evidently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's gamble did not pay off with Barcelona cruising to a 3-0 victory, thanks to a goal by Philippe Coutinho and a Lionel Messi brace.
