This is supposed to be the first of many exits at Atlético Madrid following a dismal end to their season.

One of Atlético Madrid's pillars for the past nine years is set to leave the club this summer due to a contractual dispute.

According to information by ESPN, center back Diego Godín is "90% ready" to join Inter, since contract talks with Atlético did not progress beyond good intentions. The player apparently wanted a two-year contract extension with the club, but the Spanish giants' policy of not giving a player in his 30s a multi-annual deal brought talks to a halt.

Godín, who turned 33 in February, is expected to join Inter Milan, since the nerazzurri side has offered him a three-year deal with the club, according to a source consulted by ESPN. The same source revealed that the Uruguayan defender has been approached by Manchester United, Juventus, and AC Milan, but the nerazzurri are considered the frontrunners in the attempt to lure the player away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

If this deal goes through, Atlético will experience a massive overhaul at the back, with Godín, Filipe Luis and Juanfran all leaving the club due to their contracts coming to an end. Furthermore, Lucas Hernández has already agreed terms to join Bayern München, making it even more complicated for Simeone to configure his defensive unit.

Godín joined Atlético during the 2010-11 season, where he has cemented his spot as one of the best center backs in the world. One of his goals gave Los Colchoneros the 2013-14 La Liga title, but it seems that his time at the club is set to conclude with the season.
