Pep reveals how City will edge Liverpool for title

Guardiola reveals how Man City intends to edge Liverpool in Premier League title race

April 6, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The 48 years old Spanish manager remains confident in his side with the battle for the trophy still ongoing.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has maintained that his side remains unfazed by Liverpool's top form and look poised to win the remainder of their league games to win the title. The Spanish coach and his men are in contention to defend their league title back to back for the first time in history but are facing serious competition from the Reds.

A 2-1 win over Southampton fired Jurgen Klopp's side to the summit of the English league table once again, establishing a two-point margin between them and City. The latter was involved in a FA Cup semi-final clash with Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend and could assume its position atop the table should it win its game in hand.

Asked whether Manchester City's mentality could be affected by Liverpool's relentless charge for the Premier League title following Saturday's win over Brighton, Guardiola said: "Zero (chance). I think maybe for them it is better, but for us, it is zero.

"I know Liverpool are going to win all the games. What happened is what happened. So to be champions we have to win all the games."

Furthermore, despite the possibility of Manchester City clinching a historic quadruple becoming more vivid than ever, Pep Guardiola further insisted that the odds are not exactly in his side's favor. The Etihad outfit who qualified to the final of the FA Cup at the expense of Brighton has already won the Carabao Cup this season and will feature against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League quarterfinals.

"I will announce you something," Guardiola said.

'"It is almost impossible to win the quadruple, almost. Put it in the headlines, guys. Almost impossible to win the quadruple.

"Surviving in that stage of the competitions is already a miracle. That is why it is incredible what these players have done last season when you achieve 100 points.

"Not Liverpool, not Manchester City can repeat that.

"The year after when you have the tendency to be arrogant or a little more presumptuous of thinking something that really you are not. And still, we are there. That's why it's incredible what these players have done before.

"Every game we lose players, but that is normal when you play a lot of games. We are going to try until the end of every game."
