President Josep Maria Bartomeu wants the Blaugrana ace to end his career where it all started.

Such a great story for both player and club needs to last until the end of times, and president Josep Maria Bartomeu is ready to offer the Blaugrana ace yet another contract extension to keep him around until he decides to call it quits.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Bartomeu explained that Messi's current deal with the club expires in 2021, but they will not wait that long to offer him a new contract, which will be created to keep "La Pulga" at the Camp Nou until the end of his career.

"We want to offer him an extension, that's the plan. He's young, he's just 31 years old, and even if he still has two years in his contract, he's still got many years of football ahead. We will sit down with him and discuss a long-term agreement to keep him at Camp Nou for many years to come," Bartomeu said.

Bartomeu compared Messi's career to Pelé's, since the Brazilian legend only played for Santos as a pro, something that Messi would also accomplish if he chooses to retire with Los Blaugranas.

"He knows his body, we all know his mentality, and he will call it quits once he feels that his contribution to the team is not relevant anymore. We want him to have a long and prosperous career, so we can keep enjoying life with his football," Bartomeu concluded.

Messi will try to lead Barcelona to yet another win against Atlético, in what would almost put an end to the title race.
