In Sunday’s Carling Cup final, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger once again failed to guide the Gunners to their first title since 2005. Eventually, he has vowed once again to bounce back as the season continues.
A spirited performance from Birmingham City at Wembley last weekend saw Obafemi Martins’ last-minute winner destroy Arsenal’s Carling Cup trophy hopes. In between Martin’s strike and Zigic’s opener for Birmingham, Robin van Persie had found an equaliser. However, it proved not to be enough for the Gunners to carry the day in the end.

“It's a huge disappointment. But we have massive challenges in front of us and the Carling Cup is four or five games,” Wenger told The Sun as he looked back on Arsenal’s fiasco.

“ The Premier League is 38 games and we can't throw 38 games away because of this. I'm confident we are strong enough mentally to come back and win things this season.”

It’s been 6 years now since Arsenal last won silverware. But despite failing to break their curse in the Carling Cup final against Birmingham, the Gunners are not ready to give up. There are still three trophies at stake; the English Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and the FA Cup.

On Wednesday, Arsenal will be up against Leyton Orient for a replay in the 5th round of the FA Cup. A bit more than a week ago, the Gunners were shocked by Jonathan Tehoue’s 89th minute equalizer for Leyton Orient which denied Thomas Rosicky’s 53rd minute goal from securing Arsenal with a victory right away.

After suffering an upset against Birmingham City last Sunday, Arsene Wenger and his team will hope that things go their way this time as they aim to bounce back. The Gunners will meet Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the competition if they triumph at the Emirates on Wednesday.
