The Brazilian ace is currently involved in a legal argument against Barcelona, and Spanish tax authorities want to take a closer look at his financial dealings with Los Blaugranas.

Neymar's transfer from Barcelona to PSG keeps making headlines, but this time, it could mean a harsh sanction for the footballer, courtesy of the Spanish IRS.

According to an investigation from Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the Spanish tax authorities are looking into the ongoing trial between Neymar and Los Blaugranas, where the team is demanding Neymar to pay a fee for his contract extension.

Spanish officers are investigating Neymar's steps back in 2017, when he had signed a contract extension with Los Blaugranas before he became the world's most expensive footballer. Neymar lived 183 days in Spain back in 2017, which would have forced him to pay taxes even if he did not live until the end of the year in Spanish soil.

El Mundo also reveals that PSG has not been as forthcoming as they would expect, since the French side sent Neymar's contract to the Spanish IRS without disclosing the amounts involved in the deal. PSG's lawyers have stated that these numbers are confidential.

If the Spanish IRS finds out that there is something wrong with the player's financial situation, then Neymar could follow the footsteps of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Javier Mascherano, who were tried and found guilty of failing to pay taxes to Spanish authorities.
