Interim boss lined up to replace Solari

Solari to be sacked after Sunday's Valladolid trip, interim boss lined up

March 8, 2019 By Ali M.
The board decided this in a meeting on Thursday after crashing out of the Copa del Rey and Champions League in the span of six days.

Rumors linking with Santiago Solari with the ax have picked up and according to a number of sources, the Argentine boss could take charge of Real Madrid for the final time this weekend.

According to Goal, Los Blancos held a four-hour meeting on Thursday in the wake of their disastrous Champions League exit, which was made worse by their Copa del Rey elimination nearly a week prior. Florentino Perez and Co. decided that Sunday's Real Valladolid clash will be his last match.

With a shot at silverware no longer being an option this season, the 42-year-old will be sacked and replaced by an interim boss. The report claims that his successor will be none other than Jose Mourinho.

This is a story was corroborated by TeleMadrid, also stating that Solari will soon be packing his things. And the manager they back to replace him is -- surprise, surprise -- the Special One.

However, Goal writes that the Portuguese boss will only take over in a part-time role. While the former Man United boss is highly respected by Perez, the Merengues president wishes to hold out for Zidane at the end of the season.

After winning three consecutive Champions League titles at the Bernabeu, the French World Cup winner broke the hearts of fans by announcing he was quitting last summer. The Spanish giant wishes to bring him back but Zizou feels this is not the right time to return to Madrid.

Mourinho is readily available and is willing to return immediately in what could be Real Madrid's third gaffer in nine months. However, the club is holding out for Zidane given that a summer return is a possibility. All that is certain right now is that Solari's time at the Bernabeu is limited.
