Florentino Pérez was understandably upset by the 4-1 defeat against Ajax, but the captain stepped up to defend his team-mates, according to several sources.

The relationship between Florentino Pérez and some of his footballers is not the best, especially after the incidents that took place right after the game in which Los Blancos surrendered their UEFA Champions League title.

According to Spanish newspapers Marca and As, things got pretty intense between the team's president and Sergio Ramos, who stepped up to defend the team.

Both newspapers agree in the fact that Pérez, who usually visits the team's locker room, was furious about their elimination from the European tournament, and turned his sights against the players, who he blamed for their lack of dedication and excessive time off.

That's when Ramos stepped up and asked him to take it easy, because the team's captains had asked Pérez to hire a suitable replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, but he chose to turn a deaf ear to their claims. Both newspapers state that Pérez was infuriated by these claims and slammed Ramos' infamous yellow card during the first leg of the tie, prompting a reaction by the center back, who demanded to be sacked by the president.

"I've given everything and busted a gut for this badge, for this club, and even for you! Pay me up and I'll go," Ramos reportedly told Pérez, with the entire squad watching the row.

Now, the president will have to decide if Ramos should be given the boot in what could be quite a busy offseason for Real Madrid.
