Real Madrid fans have to agree with Dani Carvajal, although they might use different words to describe the team's awful 2018-19 season.
Speaking right after the game, one of Los Blancos' co-captains did not hesitate in categorizing what has been quite a disappointing campaign for the Spanish giants, which started with Zinedine Zidane's resignation as coach and was followed by Cristiano Ronaldo's exit from the team.
"There are no excuses tonight. Our rivals did a fine job and they deserved to go through. We were not able to recover from two early mistakes, and just when we had started the second half on a high note, they scored the third goal and they killed our hopes," Carvajal said.
"This season is over for us. We will keep working in La Liga because it's what's left for us to do. We have to face the criticism for what has been a shi**y season," Carvajal added.
The player's tearful statement come after ten days in which Real Madrid was eliminated from the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League at home. Furthermore, their chances of winning La Liga are almost over following their 1-0 loss against Barcelona, which leaves them 12 points behind Los Blaugranas.
"I've never felt anything like this before. I can't explain it. We lost all of our chances inside one week, and we saw it happen at home," Carvajal concluded.
