Pérez and Solari dine to discuss Real's problems

Real Madrid coach and president discuss the future of three players over dinner

February 20, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
Both men were joined by a couple more of the team's execs in a meeting that went on for almost two hours.

Sunday's loss against Girona triggered the alarms at Real Madrid...once more. Before a number of games that could decide the fate of the team in at least two competitions, president Florentino Pérez thought it would be a good idea to have a sit down with the first-team coach, Santiago Solari.

The meeting, according to the Spanish TV show "Jugones", took place in an exclusive restaurant. Ramón Martínez and José Angel Sánchez, two of Florentino's most trusted advisors, were also invited to dine with the coach. The TV show revealed that the meeting went on for over two hours, with the future of some players and the upcoming games as the main topics.

The first order of business was to discuss the team's need to beat Barcelona in any of the two meetings that will take place next week. Losing both games would end Real Madrid's hopes of winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey, something that the team's hierarchy is not willing to handle one more time. Solari allegedly admitted that he is well aware that the outcome of those games will have a direct influence in the decision about his future.

Then, Florentino Pérez asked Solari about the current status of three players: Isco, Marcelo and Vinicius. According to the report, the relationship between the Spaniard and the coach is completely broken due to Isco's lack of intensity during the team's training sessions.

Regarding the Brazilian footballers, Vinicius will maintain his current status under Solari, which means that he will be given the treatment of a superstar. Last, but not least, Marcelo will allegedly be given a substitute role for the rest of the season, since Reguilón adapts better to Solari'system. To back up this claim, Solari compared the team's results with either one of them on the pitch, which has seen Reguilón performing his defensive duties way better than how Marcelo has played throughout the season.

The meeting allegedly concluded with Solari stating to Florentino that "he will die defending his ideals," which means that he will not satisfy the demands of some of his players. Those who have helped Real Madrid's resurgence in La Liga from ninth place up to the third spot will be considered as key by Solari, even if Isco, Marcelo or even Bale don't like that.
