Nantes to take Cardiff to FIFA over Sala's fee

Nantes to take Cardiff City to FIFA over Sala's unpaid transfer fee

February 19, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Ligue 1 outfit is yet to receive payment for the deceased striker's transfer.

Nantes has reportedly threatened to take Premiership outfit Cardiff City to FIFA over the transfer of the late Emiliano Sala. The French club is apparently set to take the course of action should the English club fail to conform to its demand to make the first instalment of the striker's £15 million transfer fee by Wednesday.

Emiliano Sala lost his life after a plane carrying him and pilot David Ibbotson – who still remains missing – crashed into the English Channel on January 21 ahead of his imminent move to Cardiff City. On Saturday, the final funeral rite and burial of the striker was performed in Argentina with club officials from both Nantes and Cardiff reportedly attending.

At the beginning of the month, the legal representatives of Nantes wrote to Cardiff City to do due diligence and make the first of three installment of Sala's transfer fee as proposed in his contract in 10 working days.

However, the Bluebirds responded by saying that no payment will be authorized until the probing into the plane crash is concluded as they suspect there are irregularities surrounding the accident.

Momentarily, Nantes is keen to replace the demised striker who has been the club's top goalscorer for three consecutive season. Also, the situation is said to have been complicated by the fact that Ligue 1 club Bordeaux has a 50% stake of the fee the Canaries will receive due to an agreement the two clubs made following the latter's acquisition in 2015.

In order to compel Cardiff City to pay the fee due, Nantes is aiming to utilize FIFA dispute resolution chamber in the coming days as per UK tabloid The Guardian.
