Di Maria breaks silence on fallout with Van Gaal

Di Maria breaks silence on his fallout with Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United

February 19, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Argentine winger has lifted the lid on what actually happened between him and the Dutch manager.

Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has finally come clean on his feud with Louis Van Gaal which resulted in his abrupt exit from the club. The 29-year-old Argentine completed a quick switch to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015 after he joined the Red Devils for a then-British record transfer fee from Real Madrid the year before.

Despite a tough start to life at Old Trafford, Di Maria occasionally impressed to give fans a glimpse of what he could offer in the coming years. However, the optimism of the attacker flourishing at the Theatre of Dreams died down after he apparently fell out with then-manager Louis Van Gaal.

Having kept his silence on the subject till now, Di Maria has revealed that their bond waned after he questioned the Dutchman's infamous stringent managerial methods and style which many cited as the reason for Manchester United's struggles at the time.

"I was at Manchester and everything was fine with Van Gaal during the first two months," he told Argentine TV programme ESPN Redes as per MEN.

"After one fight, things weren't the same. The relationship wasn't the same.

"The fight with Van Gaal occurred because he was always showing me bad and negative things and all that held me back.

"One day I fought with him. I told him I didn't want to see those things anymore, that I was doing things well and asked him why he wasn't showing me good things.

"He did not like how I spoke to him and from there the whole problem started."

Last week, Angel Di Maria featured for Paris Saint-Germain in its UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie with Manchester United and was subjected to jeers throughout the proceeding by the home crowd. The ex-Red Devil, however, successfully managed to steal the spotlight by grabbing the assists for the goals scored by both Kimpembe and Mbappe.
