Solskjaer compares Alexis Sanchez to bottle of ketchup ahead of Chelsea clash

February 18, 2019 By Ali M.
The Chilean ace is expected to feature in Monday's FA Cup clash with Chelsea despite his poor form.

Man United is preparing for a highly-anticipated clash with Chelsea in the FA Cup. All lot of the pre-match talk has focused on Alexis Sanchez due to his poor form as he appears destined to start in Monday's clash.

The Chilean ace continues to struggle at Old Trafford after his January arrival. He has scored only twice in 19 appearances, with Solskjaer admitting he cannot do much more to help the South American attacker regain the electric form that made him a feared attacker in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, the Norwegian caretaker offered optimism on the former Arsenal man's situation with an odd analogy. The Red Devils boss likened the 30-year-old to a bottle of ketchup, hinting that the goals will come pouring out soon.

"It’s one of those things," Solskjaer said, as per the Daily Mail. "You know that bottle of ketchup when it never comes, but when it suddenly comes there’s loads!

"I think he’s a very good player. He’s very talented, but of course, there’s only so many things you can sit down and talk about and tweak. If he could just get that goal I’m sure that would release his confidence.

"That’s what it’s about when you go through periods when you don’t perform up to your standard because we know there is a very, very good player there."

Ole Gunnar then went on to predict Alexis will turn things around before the season ends. The attacker recently scored against former club Arsenal and has a lovely track record in the FA Cup and will thus hope to add to his tally in the showdown with the Blues.

With both Martial and Lingard out with injuries, the pressure will be on Sanchez to show his worth. He will likely return to the starting lineup and must take this opportunity to show he is worth is hefty wages.
