WATCH: Nantes pay final tribute to Emiliano Sala in special kit

February 10, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Ligue 1 outfit wore an all-black kit with a peculiar detail in memory of the deceased striker.

Ligue 1 outfit Nantes paid final respect to Emiliano Sala in its first home game since the Argentine forward was pronounced dead.

Earlier last week, the private search party dispatched to look for the missing plane that was supposed to carry the striker from France to his new club Cardiff identified a body in the wreckage as that of Sala. The body of the 28-year-old forward has been recovered although that of the pilot of the plane, David Ibbotson is yet to be accounted for.

Against Nimes on Sunday, Sala's teammate wore an all-black strip with the Argentine's name at the back. Tickets to the game were also sold at a discounted fee of 9 euros in memory of his iconic number which has now been retired by the French club.

A minute of silence was also observed in front of 37,000 fans and resounding cheers and claps were heard all around the Stade de la Beaujoire which had a huge portrait of Sala at its center. There was almost a shine in the gloomy afternoon for Nantes who took a two-goal lead before the half-time.

However, with emotions possibly getting the better half of the deranged Canaries who succumbed to a 4-2 defeat in the second half.
