Three reasons why Real Madrid's win hurts Atlético

Three reasons why Real Madrid's win hurts Atlético so much

February 9, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
Los Blancos were able to beat their bitter rival for the first time in five games, ending Diego Simeone's recent dominance over them.

The second Madrid derby of the 2018-19 campaign left a few talking points for fans around the world, especially those that support Los Blancos.

Goals by Casemiro, Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale ended Atlético's unbeaten run at home, but that was not the only thing Solari's men managed to accomplish while scoring three times at Wanda Metropolitano.

First off, the 13-time UEFA Champions League winners ended Atlético's home streak without conceding three goals at home in a La Liga game.

Today's win also propelled Real Madrid to La Liga's second place. Remember where they were ranked when Solari stepped in for Lopetegui?

Last, but not least, Simeone's men had not been beaten at Wanda Metropolitano in all competitions...until today. Quite a streak they lost today!
