The Italian's tactics have come under heavy criticism, but Pep sees no wrong-doings at the Blues.

On Sunday, two managers with similar philosophies will go head-to-head in the highly-anticipated Man City vs Chelsea match. However, while Guardiola is constantly praised for his possession-based game, Maurizio Sarri has faced criticism for a similar approach.

The Italian has been blasted by pundits and fans in recent weeks after their dip in form, with an over-dependence on Jorginho in building from the back leading to their downfall on occasions. The former Napoli boss remains adamant that his men must master this style of play first before alterations can be made, but this stubbornness did not sit well with many.

Some have even suggested that Sarri could earn the sack should he continue on this course but Pep sees no wrong-doing in his counterpart's approach. Speaking ahead of their run-in, the Spaniard praised the Blues and their style of play.

“As a spectator and coach I try to figure out what the manager is trying to do,” said Guardiola (via Sky Sports).

“I see Chelsea and I can understand what they want to do. And after I see them, they do it. Maybe for other people, they don’t know exactly what they want to do. But they do it.

“The best strikers in the world are there, the midfielders there are the best in the world, a good goalkeeper, experienced defenders. They know exactly what they want to do.

“The season for them is exceptional – final of the Carabao Cup, Europa League through and in the Premier League they are there, even if people don’t believe it.”

Chelsea, having lost two of their last three Premier League games, is in a tight race to finish in the top four. Defeats to Arsenal and Bournemouth were huge setbacks and should they lose at the Etihad, Man United could leapfrog them into the fourth spot.

As for the Citizens, they are locked in an intense battle with Liverpool for the league crown. Aguero and Co. currently lead on goal difference but have played a game extra, meaning a slip-up at home against Hazard and Co. could be costly.
