Solari stirs Isco feud with fresh criticism

Santiago Solari stirs Isco feud with fresh criticism

February 8, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Real Madrid boss has fired shots at the Spanish midfielder in response to his recent complaint.

Santiago Solari has reacted to Isco's grievances of being denied play time at Real Madrid. The appointment of the Argentine manager has seen the Spanish midfielder's chances of frequently featuring in the starting eleven cut short, a development contrasting to what was the case under former manager Julen Lopetegui.

In the Real Madrid's last 14 games across all competitions, Isco has been an unused substitute on six occasions. According to Marca, Isco has been on the bench 767 minutes this season. No player in the Spanish league has managed more than the former Malaga stalwart.

On Thursday, Isco took to social media to bemoan the treatment he is currently subjected to at Madrid as a response to a caution by former Real Madrid player Ruben de la Red. In his Twitter post, he stated: "I totally agree with de la Red, but things change when you do not enjoy the same opportunities as your teammates. I still keep working and fighting hard, waiting for [the opportunities]. Hala Madrid!"

In wake of the player's comments, Solari has risen to justify Isco's omission from the starting line up in recent times.

"The job of a professional footballer is to train at 100 percent to be ready for the team," he stated at a news conference ahead of the Madrid derby on Saturday.

"All our players are training very well in every session so that the team can be on the front foot in games.

"Being a footballer is about working hard and putting your talent to the service of the team. All the players are thinking of the team, and focused on the next game."

Isco is reportedly battling a back ailment and, as a result, could miss the upcoming clash against Atletico Madrid. According to Opta, Santiago Solari has led Real Madrid to eight wins in nine matches across all competitions without Isco.

Los Blancos only failed to record a win in the Copa del Rey draw with Barcelona at Camp Nou.
