Solskjaer matches Sir Alex's feat with Manager of the Month award win

February 8, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The interim Manchester United boss has been named as the Premier League's Manager of the month of January.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has followed in the footsteps of his former manager Sir. Alex Ferguson to win the Premier League Manager of the Month accolade. Interestingly, none among his predecessors - David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho - could gain the recognition, making the Norwegian becomes the first manager since the Scottish man to receive the honor.

A fairytale start since taking over from Mourinho in the middle of December has seen Ole turn the fortune of Manchester United around. Under his supervision, the Red Devils are momentarily on a 10-game unbeaten run, registering nine wins and a draw. The Old Trafford outfit recorded five wins and one draw across all competitions in January, boasting a form better than any of its competitors in the Premiership.

On Friday, Solskjaer was given the award and the 45-year-old manager was quick to attribute the success being enjoyed by Manchester United to the collective effort of his coaching staff and the players. Relatively, Marcus Rashford was also named the Player of the Month and, as such, became the third United player, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial, to scoop the honor following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

"It's been a great achievement," Solskjaer told a news conference.

"The team deserves every single bit of credit – they've done it.

"But I don't look back at being proud of this and proud of that, I've never been that way, I've always looked forward and not sat down before a chapter is finished.

"I reflect, but I've never [pat myself on the back] and said, "Well done", maybe I should do more often. But that's just me."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his Manchester United brigade will travel to the Craven Cottage on Saturday to take on lowly-placed Fulham. A win for the Red Devils could send them to the fourth position before Chelsea takes on Manchester City on Sunday.
