Tuchel not expecting Mbappe to play like Neymar

Tuchel explains why he does not want Mbappe playing like Neymar

February 6, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The German manager does not want the French prodigy to change anything about his style.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Thomas Tuchel has iterated that he would not ask Kylian Mbappe to play like his attacking partner Neymar Jr. The latter injured his foot against Strasbourg and, as a result, has been ruled out of action for at least 10 weeks.

In hindsight, the Brazilian winger will miss both Champions League Round of 16 tie encounters with Manchester United among other crucial matches. His absence in the weekend's clash with Olympique Lyon saw PSG losing in Ligue 1 for the first time this season.

However, there is very little cause for concern in the attacking department for the Parisians as Mbappe is expected to produce the goods while the ex-Barcelona star is convalescing. The 20-year-old French starlet has already scored 22 times this season and his manager has admitted that he is not interested in making him change his style to fill the void created in the absence of Neymar.

"I don't want Kylian to play like Neymar and keep the ball," Tuchel told a news conference.

"Kylian is incredibly dangerous in the final move and I want him to stay that way."

Relatively, Tuchel has advised his players against complacency as the club maintains interest in winning the upcoming Coupe de France match against Villefranche on Wednesday.

"I expect a match with great domination and possession of the ball," he added.

"They're going to want to play on the counter-attack. We must play with seriousness and vigilance.

"It's a decisive match, we definitely want to win and it's our responsibility to win.

"We have experienced players like Gianluigi Buffon, Dani Alves and Thiago [Silva]. They play every match with the same state of mind."

After the clash with Villefranche, PSG will host Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on Saturday, before it is welcomed by Manchester United on Tuesday.
