Bartomeu: Barca open to pursuing Isco

Bartomeu reveals Barcelona is open to pursuing Real Madrid talent

February 6, 2019 By Ali M.
The Blaugrana president made this confession ahead of his team's semi-final clash with Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona is preparing to face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday in the first of their two-legged semi-final clash. Ahead of the game, Josep Maria Bartomeu opened up about his team's transfer policy and admitted that the Blaugrana could pursue one player from their bitter rival.

That man is none other than Isco, the talented midfielder who is struggling under Santiago Solari. The Spaniard was once seen as the future of both the club and his national side but his lack of playing time looks to derail his career.

As a result, he has been linked with a Santiago Bernabeu exit and for expected reasons. In the 10 games Los Blancos have played in 2019, Isco has started only once and is thus understandably unhappy with his situation.

Whether he will force an exit is not clear at the moment, but should the chance arise, the Blaugrana would pursue the 26-year-old. The Barcelona president was keen to stress that there is no pact stopping one club from signing a player from their Clasico rival.

"If our coaches asked us for a player and they wanted to leave Madrid then of course we would sign them," Bartomeu told 'El Partidazo' of COPE (via Marca).

"It hasn't happened since I've been here, but there are no non-aggression pacts and each team wants to become more competitive.

"We would talk to Madrid about Isco."

While Isco has been linked with a Camp Nou switch on occassions, luring him from the Bernabeu will be difficult. Should the midfield maestro set his mind on leaving, he will not be short of suitors from foreign leagues, namely the Premier League. If Los Blancos were to sell, a move abroad would be their preferred.
