The former defender has advised the Red Devils to complete the signing of the center back to fix their defensive shortcomings.

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has asked the club to go all out to sign Real Madrid's Raphael Varane. The Red Devils' weakness in defense has presented itself once again with the club conceding 35 goals in the English Premier League alone while scoring 49.

The Old Trafford outfit was linked with a move for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly in the just ended winter transfer window but saw its advances prove futile. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side reportedly had two bids for the Senegalese defender rejected.

There has been improvement in the defensive department for Manchester United in recent weeks as a result of the consistency of Victor Lindelof which has been complimented by either Phil Jones or Eric Bailly. In the last 10 matches, the 20-time English champions have conceded just eight goals while scoring 26 times.

However, Wes Brown believes that his former club will come good if they make Real Madrid center back Raphael Varane a priority signing in the summer. Having helped France to a World Cup triumph in Russia, the 26-year-old has come under a lot of criticisms in recent times for his sharp dip in form.

"The dream defender for United would be Rafael Varane," Wes Brown was quoted to have said as per Metro UK.

"He would cost a lot and it would need to be the right fit for United.

"It's difficult to say as United have a lot of defenders to choose from, and Solskjaer will want players to justify their positions on the pitch.

"It's a shame United haven't been able to find a regular center back partnership due to injuries. There's not been a partnership you can say has took off yet, where you can see it stick.

"Solskjaer will try to find out who is the best partnership and the defenders will all be fighting for places, which is good for the team."

Manchester United is also reportedly monitoring Serie A trio Kostas Manolas, Milan Skriniar and Nikola Milenkovic.
