The Welsh ace admitted being frustrated by his lack of playing time under the French boss in the months leading to the UCL final.

While Zinedine Zidane keeps his status as a Real Madrid icon, there are some of his former players that have kept a dry eye since the coach's departure.

In a recent interview with football magazine FourFourTwo, Gareth Bale shared details on his relationship with Zizou. Those details confirm that neither Bale nor Zidane made an effort to take their relationship to the next level.

"I wouldn't say that we were the best pals. Our relationship was strictly professional. He didn't talk to me after the UEFA Champions League final. We haven't talked to each other up to this date," Bale said.

Reports from earlier this season suggested that Bale had a key role in Zidane's decision to leave Real Madrid right after winning a third UCL title in a row. According to those reports, Zidane and Florentino Pérez had agreed to transfer Bale away from the club, but the player's antics against Liverpool caused Pérez to think things over. Zidane did not like Pérez's change of heart, and he decided to hand in his resignation.

Added to those claims, Bale revealed the possible reason why he did not have the best of relationships with Zidane.

"I was really frustrated for not starting that game (the final against Liverpool). I had been playing pretty well since the last minor injury I had back in December, I had scored five goals in my last four matches and I felt I deserved to be more involved," Bale added.
