The former Real Madrid striker addressed the hostile reception he may receive after completing his medical.

Spanish striker Alvaro Morata is set to be unveiled as an Atletico Madrid player after completing his medical on Sunday. The 26-year-old is in line for a 9-million-euro loan move from Chelsea which will see him spend the next 18 months with the Spanish capital club.

Having failed to live up to expectations following his move to the English Premier League in 2017, Morata's struggles continued under Mauricio Sarri in the ongoing campaign. The attacker, as a result, asked to leave after managing a goal return nine in 24 appearances under the Italian coach.

Chelsea's recent acquisition of Gonzalo Higuain virtually brought an end to the ex-Real Madrid and Juventus striker's stint with Chelsea and multiple reports from Spain indicates that his return to La Liga is all but confirmed. However, ultras of Atletico Madrid feel indifferent about the forward's transfer and even chanted against his arrival during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Getafe.

Ahead of his unveiling, the ex-Real Madrid player expressed his ecstasy and subsequently addressed the reception he may be subjected to as a former employee of Atletico's cross-town rivals.

"I'm very happy for this stage, I have been waiting for days, I want everything to be completed and to start training with my team-mates," Morata decleared as per Express UK.

"The people who have always been with me know how I feel and how I will feel tomorrow and how the last days have been, I am very happy.

"People have their thoughts, but I know what I have to do, I started playing at Atleti and people who know where I come from know my story and what this means to me.

"The past is the past and cannot be changed and I am very proud of that and I hope it will be finished tomorrow."

Head coach of Atletico Diego Simeone also threw his support behind Morata following despite the antagonistic reaction from fans.
