One of Atlético's best players in their golden age may be on his way out. Is this the end of an era?

Atlético's need for new blood has apparently pushed away one of their historical footballers. According to Sky Sports, Diego Godín is closing in on a transfer to Inter Milan after failing to extend his commitment with Los Colchoneros beyond this season.

The Uruguayan footballer had been trying to reach a deal with Atlético to extend his current contract, but talks got stalled due to the length of the deal Godin was looking for. Given that the footballer is close to turn 33 yeaers old, Los Colchoneros refused to offer him a multi-annual extension, which pushed him away from the Spanish capital giants.

The 2014 La Liga winner with Atlético has reportedly undergone a medical examination at Inter Milan's facility, with his mind set on joining the nerazzurri side on a free transfer next summer. Sky Sports' sources revealed that the Uruguayan has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Luciano Spalletti's team.

Godin's signing with Inter also fuels the rumors concerning Diego Simeone's arrival to the Italian city in June. "El Cholo" has failed to reach an agreement to extend his deal with Los Colchoneros, and the possibility of returning to Milan with his beloved Inter has been talked about for quite some time. After leading Atlético to European and domestic glory, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Simeone and Godín teaming up once again, but this time with the nerazzurri side.
