PSG appeared to have won the race for the Dutchman but there has been a twist to this transfer saga.

Barcelona's interest in Frenkie de Jong is no secret. While the Spanish giant is eager on landing the Ajax starlet, the Spanish giant isn't the only European giant interested in the midfielder.

PSG is another heavyweight keen on De Jong and the Ligue 1 champion appeared to have won the battle for his services at one point. However, according to sources out of Spain, there has been a twist to this saga.

Catalunya Radio (via Marca) states that the player has opted for a move to Camp Nou over a Parc des Princes switch. After intense January negotiations, the 21-year-old ended up choosing the Catalan giant.

Additionally, they claim that the player's agent has contacted PSG as well as Man City and Juventus to inform them of the midfielder's decision. A Barcelona delegation is now expected to head out to Amsterdam on Wednesday to complete the deal.

The Dutchman was initially tipped to cost $98M but recent sources claim Barcelona bid $117M to price PSG out of this deal. The midfielder will also reportedly pocket $21M per year in salary and bonuses.

Should this deal be completed, De Jong will join Kevin-Prince Boateng on the list of latest players to join Valverde's crew. The Ghanaian signed for the Spanish giant on a shocking loan deal, but the arrival of the Netherlands starlet will be the one to excite the fans.

As for Boateng, the former AC Milan ace is expected to make his debut for his new side in the Copa del Rey later today. The defending champion will take on Sevilla in a highly-anticipated cup game, with Messi being rested.
