The caretaker boss gave his thoughts on how things were when he arrived in an interview.

Up until now, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer had refrained from criticizing Jose Mourinho's tactics but the caretaker manager has finally given his honest opinion on how things were when he arrived.

The Norwegian tactician has impressed since arriving at Old Trafford, leading the Red Devils to six straight wins in all competitions. Their most recent victory saw them come away from Tottenham with all three points, beating them 1-0 to move level with Arsenal on points in the standings.

The likes of Pogba and Rashford appears to have rediscovered their form under Solskjaer's attacking system. However, the Man United icon recently stated that the tactics at the club were "stupid" not too long ago.

The 45-year-old made these candid remarks in an interview with Malaysian TV station Astro Supersport. The interim boss was asked what alterations were necessary upon his arrival back at Christmas, with the Norwegian giving a frank response.

"The first thing you talk about is that you do need to smile when you are a Manchester United player, you do enjoy it because when it’s over, you miss it," Ole Gunnar said, as per the Sun.

“It’s about at attacking, it’s about pace, power, attack quickly.

"I know we didn’t have the best of pace but we still attacked.

“That’s what Man Utd is built around, attacking football and going forwards, not stupid square and backpasses.”

The "stupid square and backpasses" is believed to be a reference to Mourinho's tactics at Man United where the players appeared to be deterred from playing attacking football. Solksjaer has released this shackles and has reaped the benefits, as his men have scored 17 times in his first six games.

His start to life at the Theatre of Dreams has drastically improved his odds of landing the permanent job next summer, once the current campaign ends. However, he will still face competition from Mauricio Pochettino, who has been linked with the managerial job for a while.
