The Argentine boss had a couple of hernias removed from his stomach and hasn't been able to make it back to Mexico.

Diego Maradona's health issues have caused him to miss the first game of his second tournament as Dorados' coach, but his absence will be extended a bit longer than expected by his fans and by his employers.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Dorados' president Antonio Núñez admitted that fans will most likely be able to watch "El Diez" on the sidelines for Week 4 of the Ascenso MX tournament, set to take place next week. With that in mind, Maradona will not be around to coach Dorados in their Copa MX game against Querétaro or their Ascenso MX clash against Juárez.

"He had a couple of hernias removed last weekend. Everything worked out well, and as far as I'm concerned, he will be given a clean bill of health next week, so he will be able to travel back to Mexico on January 22 or 23," Núñez said.

The Ascenso MX exec admitted that the club has not been that forthcoming when speaking about their coach's health, mainly due to a request by Maradona himself.

"We've kept in touch. I've been coy about this, but Diego asked us to act this way. I told him that we needed to speak about this matter because whatever he does makes headlines around the world. We have the idea of him working with the team to face Matchday 4 on the bench," the team's president added.

Dorados is expected to fight for a place in the Liga MX if they can manage to repeat their feat from the Apertura tournament, where they lost the final against Atlético San Luis. Maradona's experience will surely be appreciated, if he can return quickly to the dugout.
