Man Utd handed huge Pochettino blow

Tottenham vs Man United: The Red Devils handed huge blow in Pochettino pursuit

January 12, 2019 By Ali M.
The Argentine remains target no.1 at Old Trafford for the managerial job, but their chances of landing him appear to have diminished.

Man United's interest in Mauricio Pochettino is no kept secret. The Tottenham boss is on the Red Devils radar, but according to the latest report, the Premier League giant has been handed a huge blow.

According to the Sun, Daniel Levy has informed the Tottenham board that under no circumstances should the Argentine be allowed to join the 20-time English top-flight champion. The Spurs chairman deems the former Espanyol man to be indispensable and will thus reject all expected summer bids from Man United.

A $64M offer from the Old Trafford side won't even do the trick, as Levy is unwilling to give this move the green light for even more than the worth of Pochettino's contract. With the team set to move into a new stadium and their promising squad pushing for the title, the Argentine is seen as a key figure in the club's future.

The Manchester outfit is currently led by interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The Norweigian caretaker has begun life extremely well, winning his first five games in charge, but Pochettino, who has four years left on his Tottenham contract, remains their top target nonetheless.

Real Madrid is another club interested in the highly sought after Argentine, but they are tipped to turn to Mourinho. All of this points to a stay for the former Southampton boss, who will be given full contract in the transfer market by Levy as an award.

Solskjær, who will face his first big test on Sunday when his side travels to Wembley to face the north London side, is keen on winning over the Man United board. However, Woodward and Co. have drawn up a list of candidates, meaning the Norwegian will have to beat out more competition than just Pochettino to earn a permanent job.
