Pulisic's transfer to Chelsea DONE

DONE DEAL: Christian Pulisic set to join Chelsea next summer

January 2, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The American winger has fallen down Lucien Favre's pecking order, forcing the player to look for other employment opportunities.

What started out as a possibility has turned out to be an earth-shattering deal for both Borussia Dortmund and Christian Pulisic.

The German outfit and Chelsea have agreed to see the footballer joining the Blues next summer on a $73M deal, with Pulisic making the trip to England once the 2018-19 season comes to a conclusion. Pulisic's deal with Dortmund ended in the summer of 2019, and Chelsea was not ready to let other teams get in the way, which forced them to splash cash to sign the highly-rated player.

Pulisic's deal is record-breaking for both American football and Chelsea. The player will become the most-expensive footballer in history once the $73M are paid to Dortmund, while he will also become Chelsea's second most expensive transfer of all time, trailing that of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga last summer for just over $80M.

Speaking to the team's website, Pulisic shared his enthusiasm on joining the Blues, considered by many as one of the best teams in the English top flight.

"It's a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team of world class players," Pulisic said.

Chelsea Director Marina Granovskaia shared her views on this transfer, which could see the American take a stellar role for the Blues due to his young age.

"Christian has shown his quality during a fantastic spell in Germany and at just 20, we believe he has the potential to become an important Chelsea player for many years to come. We look forward to welcoming him to Stamford Bridge in the summer and wish him and Dortmund every success for the remainder of the season," Roman Abramovich's "right hand" said.

The American winger has played 140 games for Borussia Dortmund in all competitions, scoring 29 goals and handing out 37 assists.
