The German manager is not buying into the prospect of his side 'bottling' the league once again.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says it is 'total bulls**t' to ask if Liverpool will relinquish its lead atop the Premier League table. The German manager's side has not lost a single game and remains one among only a handful of clubs in Europe to have achieved the feat this season.

However, history shows that the Merseysiders ranking first in the league during the Christmas period does not necessarily guarantee a title win for them come the end of the season. In both the 2008/2009 and 2013/2014 seasons, Liverpool lost the Premiership title to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively despite leading the table in December.

The club, as a result, became the only side in the last 10 years to lose the English Premier League title whiles occupying top spot during the Christmas festivities. With many believing the jinx has the tendency to replicate itself yet again, Jurgen Klopp has squashed the claim while raising optimism among Liverpool fans. '

"I was asked the other day if we can lose it from this position. It's just bulls**t," Klopp declared at a media conference ahead of Wednesday's game.

"We've collected so many points and it's a new record for the club so let's stay on that path and see where it takes us. We have to be focused.

"I've heard many times now that when you're top at Christmas you win the title, but only Liverpool won't!

"It's all bulls**t. What does it mean? It's a different team, a different time. It's not interesting.

"And if the opposite was true and Liverpool went on to become champions in those previous seasons, would I think now, halfway through the season, that the job is done? Of course not."

Liverpool will take on Newcastle United on Boxing Day as it aims to maintain the four-point gap at the summit of the league table.
