The Blues are reportedly expecting Gonzalo Higuain to reunite with his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri in January.

Former Premier League champions Chelsea has reportedly agreed to a swap deal that will see Alvaro Morata depart the club for AC Milan and Gonzalo Higuain join. The move is expected to materialize in the upcoming winter transfer window.

The Stamford Bridge outfit, despite having both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud in its ranks, is yet to identify an actual marksman under Maurizio Sarri. The pair has struggled this season, collectively accumulating a low return of 12 goals in 48 appearances.

The underperformance of both players has, as a result, coerced the Italian tactician to resort to using Eden Hazard as a false nine in recent games, hence the remedy to sign a striker in the January transfer window. According to Italian news outlet Sport MediaSet, Gonzalo Higuain has been identified as the ideal target man for Maurizio Sarri.

The Argentine striker's reunion with his former boss is believed to be 'inevitable' after a purported agreement was reached between Chelsea and Milan. While Higuain is momentarily on a two-year loan move with the Rossoneri from Juventus, the deal will see him spend the next six months playing for the Blues.

It is speculated that his move away will subsequently reduce the stress on the Milan club's wage bill. Genaro Gattuso's side has already caught the eyes of the FFP authorities and risk a year ban from European football if the club fails to balance its books after breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

Relatively, Alvaro Morata will be away on an 18-month loan deal. The Spaniard, despite his indifferent form under Sarri, is expected to excel having previously done so during his time with Juventus between 2014 and 2016.
