Manchester City ranks atop Group F with 10 points after five games. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, sits at the bottom of the table with three points in five matches.
Manchester City comes into Wednesday's fixture on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Citizens, as a result, ended a 22-game unbeaten run in the Premier League which stretches as far back as April 2018. Prior to Sunday's defeat, Pep Guardiola's men had won nine and drawn just one of the last 10 fixtures across all competitions.
Hoffeinhem, having finished club-record third in the Bundesliga last season, has failed to make a mark in its debut Champions League campaign. Julian Nagelsmann's men are on the verge of elimination from the European competition and will need a shock win at Etihad and aim that Shakhtar Donetsk drops points against Lyon in order to qualify for the Europa League.
In terms of performances in recent times, the German outfit is without a win in its last four games and has only managed three in the last 10.
Center-back Nicolas Otamendi has recovered in time and should be in contention for a spot in the starting XI on Wednesday. Sergio Aguero is still sidelined with an injury and, as a result, Gabriel Jesus is expected to lead the attack having started on the bench in the defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Both Phil Foden and Danilo could also be given respective run-outs having been scarcely utilized this season. However, David Silva will miss the final group stage match with a hamstring injury.
For Hoffenheim, striker Adam Szalai is suspended for the upcoming clash while Nordtveit, Otto and Rupp will all be unavailable due to respective injuries.
Last October's meeting in Germany was Manchester City's first ever with Hoffenheim. The Citizens prevailed with a narrow 2-1 victory inside the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
