'El Guaje' will reveal his future plans shortly, with reports suggesting he will not hang his boots just yet.

After four years in the Big Apple, David Villa has decided that his time in the MLS must conclude.

The former La Roja international decided to end his relationship with the Newyorkers after being the first-ever player to sign with the franchise in 2014. "El Guaje" scored 80 goals in 125 games and won the MLS MVP award in the 2016 season.

The club issued a statement regarding Villa's departure, which highlighted the player's contribution to the franchise.

The player himself sent a message to the team's supporters after the decision was revealed.

"I can only say thank you, thank you to everybody. First, to City Football Group that gave me the opportunity to come here. To NYCFC and MLS for accepting me. To everybody at the Club who helped me day-by-day," Villa told NYCFC.com

"Obviously, our fans. I remember the first day I showed the jersey and the supporters were there. I would have liked to give the supporters the MLS Cup, but I don't have any doubts that in the next years the Club will get it for sure. My experience here was amazing," the player added.

While the 36-year-old footballer may not continue his playing career for a long time, reports by several sources sugges that the Spaniard will join former La Roja team-mates Andrés Iniesta and Fernando Torres in the J-League next year. The striker is set to announce his future plans in the upcoming days.
