The Manchester United manager revealed that one person was in the way of the Spanish goalkeeper signing a new contract.

Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho has revealed that David De Gea would like to extend his stay at the club. The Portuguese manager's statement goes contrary to recent reports which suggests that the 27-year-old Spaniard is stalling on a new deal at the club.

According to speculations, De Gea's stance is due to the fact that he is skeptical about the direction in which Manchester United is headed with the club apparently struggling post-Sir Alex Ferguson. Having bailed the Red Devils on countless occasions, the former Atletico Madrid goalie salvaged his team's qualification hopes by pulling off one of the best saves of the season in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Young Boys.

Marouane Fellaini then ensured that his shot-stopper's effort did not prove to be futile by grabbing a controversial winner for Manchester United late in the game. Speaking after the match, Jose Mourinho put the hearts of Manchester United fans at rest by reiterating De Gea's importance to the club and his wish to continue in goal for the English side.

"David de Gea is a world-class player," Mourinho told reporters following his team's epic triumph against Young Boys.

"The best goalkeeper in the world. If our ambitions are to be a winning club, you need the best goalkeeper in the world and best other players in the world.

"I know his agent is happy to do what the player wants and I also know that the board wants him to stay and they are working on that. So hopefully sooner or later, they arrive at a good conclusion."

David De Gea's current contract expires at the end of the season and Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly keeping tabs on securing his service should he decide to exit Manchester United.
